CHICAGO (CBS)– Three people were shot in the Lakeview neighborhood early Monday morning.
Police said the shooting took place around 1:30 a.m. at the intersection of Barry Avenue, and Clark and Halsted streets, around 12 hours after Chicago’s Pride Parade came through the neighborhood.
Police said a woman and two men were standing outside when someone fired shots.
A 46-year-old woman was shot in the stomach and remains in critical condition at Illinois Masonic Hospital.
A 30-year-old man was shot in the knee and a 37-year-old man was shot in the leg. They are both in good condition.
There were at least 40 evidence markers in the parking lot of the Advocate Outpatient Center on Clark Street.
The shooting comes just days after Ald. Tom Tunney (44th) expressed concerns over safety during the Pride Parade and the crowds that traditionally have gathered afterwards.
In a letter from Tunney to police Supt. David Brown, the alderman bluntly asked for more resources, calling the current Chicago police safety plan for the parade “insufficient for the size of the crowds.”
“Specifically, the 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. shift,” Tunney said. “This is really important to put you on notice that this post-parade activity that goes until 4 in the morning definitely needs to have more supervision.”
The Town Hall District Police commander said the department had it covered, with additional resources for both the parade route and any festivities that followed.
The shooting was not the only act of violence taking place during post-parade celebrations.
Three people were also stabbed near Belmont and Sheffield in Lakeview around 11:30 p.m. Sunday night. A woman is in custody following that incident.
Hours earlier just a few blocks away, a Chicago police officer was punched in the 3300 block of North Clark Street. Police said around 8:30 p.m., the sergeant attempted to arrest a male offender when a 21-year-old woman punched the sergeant in the head.
The sergeant was treated at a local hospital for ear and hand pain.
Charges are pending.
